Dr. Rumney's Green 20g
Dr.Rumney's Green is another memorable concoction from the doctor's dispensary. The tobacco base is of the same ilk as brother blue with selected fermented weeds that impart sylvan and smoky aromas to the potion with the usual amalgam of spicy medications, augmented with a specially blended bouquet of complex floral, citrus flavorings crowned with sweet anise. This is a middle brown, moist and medium ground powder that is not too aggressive in the nose and promises a substantial kick of nicotine. Welcome, the doctor is in.

If you don't like Licorice/Anise then you can stop reading because Dr. Rumney's Green is loaded with it.
There is A LOT to unpack with this snuff... The grind is very fine and has a silky smooth almost velvet like consistency. Moisture is medium. I have to say the grind and moisture are about as perfect as you can get. Extremely easy to take and it feels so soft and smooth in the nose. Nicotine content is medium-high.
This snuff has a very medicinal quality to, and is packed with the wide variety of essential oils and botanical scents. I've sampled other snuffs that attempt to blend too many scents into one product and the end result is awful, so you would think with so many things going on that this would be gross, but somehow they've managed to make all of these botanicals blend together harmoniously... However, don't be mistaken... this is first a foremost an anise flavored product. Upon your first sniff the anise seed scent hits your nose with a massive punch of licorice. it has a slight burn to it and just the right amount of menthol and eucalyptus. The menthol instantly clears the nose but is not overpowering and it doesn't leave a long lasting burn, but rather fades within 3-5 minutes leaving you with a lingering aniseed scent that soon gives way to a forest of other botanicals... Scents of bitter orange (neroli or bergamot) blend perfectly with floral notes of Rose and Lavender. Normally I hate floral scented snuffs since they so often smell artificial, but rather than the aroma of carpet cleaner this snuff reveals the fragrance of beautiful and natural smelling essential oils. The complexity of this snuff is seriously impressive and while not a daily use snuff for me, when I do find myself reaching for its very hard to put it down once I've had a sniff. The perfect complement for a relaxing day.
I don't know if Dr. Rumney was ever a real person, but hats off to whoever perfected this thoughtful recipe.
-- One additional note to make: after having this tin open for a month, the pungency of the licorice and menthol have mellowed out enough to reveal more of the floral and SP type aromas.
This is a great aniseed snuff. It may very well be my favorite of the Dr. Rumney's offerings. Expect a fairly moist, moderately mentholated snuff with a high nicotine content. A gorgeous, complex blend of aniseed, eucalyptus, camphor, lavender, bergamot, rose, and menthol springs from a rich, mellow bed of earthy, woody, and chocolaty tobacco on each sniff, lingering in the nose for a substantial amount of time. Try it if you are looking for a very refined snuff with a lot to dig into on each toot.
maybe mr snuff is not the right company to order from very disappointed in them.
I don't know if I agree with the description of "balanced" for this snuff. The other florals may compliment the flavour but all I really get out of it is anise or licorice and menthol. It smells like a shot of Ouzo or Sambuca with a dollop of menthol. I first ordered this because it was the only snuff in stock with lavender (I love toque lavender) and didn't get what I was hoping for but still fell in love. I would highly recommend.
During the canicule, on a hot summer’s day in l’Occitanie or Provence, Sunday lunch is served outdoors under the cover of shade often provided by olive trees. As the meats are being grilled and the table prepared one has recourse to a Ricard diluted milky white with fresh spring water. Dr. Rumney’s Green is that refreshing pastis, under the guise of snuff. Its mixture of aniseed, licorice root, lavender, rose, eucalyptus and menthol combined with a high nicotine hit prepares the palate for the communal meal to be shared by family and friends.
